5 Tips for an Awesome Picnic at Home!!
Hey, hey... it's National Picnic Day!
Today is a great day to pack up a snack, grab a blanket and head outside. Yeah, you’ve probably done the backyard picnic thing at least once in the last 40 days ( #quarantinelife ) but here’s an opportunity to break the monotony and get a dose of Vitamin D!
Need some help getting started?
Here are my top 5 tips on how to have an awesome backyard picnic:
Pick Your Spot: Get the space ready before you come outside, trust me, you don’t want to be balancing a plate of food on top of your drinks only to find out there are ants in the spot you THOUGHT was perfect. Scope it out beforehand and you’ll be off to a running start! (Yes, ants ruining picnics is very, very real.)
Grab a Blanket: It’s traditional and romantic and the whole idea of a National Picnic Day is pretty whimsical as is so forego the patio set and put down a blanket, mat or towel- lean into the whimsy!
Pack Light: snacks and a bottle of something bubbly are my mainstays. The picnic is meant to be experiential, it’s not about the food! Raid your fridge and pantry and grab 2-3 things that sound good, it’s as easy as that. My fave: fresh mango with mint and kombucha- so refreshing! Here are some other classics: cheese and crackers and a glass of wine, veggies and hummus, a quick sandwich and a beer… the possibilities are endless. Just stick to 2-3 things.
Grab a tray: This is key- having an all-in-one delivery and plating ‘tool’ is so awesome and makes the experience so much simpler, start to finish (because cleanup is coming!) use your tray to transport everything to your already set-up space ;) plus it doubles as a little table so you have a sturdy place to set your drinks- look at you crushing this picnic thing!
Add something special: I’m a big fan of adding ‘MORE’ to your picnic (as evidenced by my over-the-top picnic business) and you can be extra too- I mean why not?! We’ve been stuck inside for way too long; now’s the time to do something special and make your partner/family/roomies smile! Add some fresh plucked flowers from the yard! Grab some champagne and toast your #stayathome mastery, or if you really want to get it- write a little love note. These little bits of joy will make your picnic at home extra special.
